ENERGY EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS

Insulation

When you insulate your walls and/or roof, heat loss is reduced which makes your home warmer and easier to heat, and this can help to reduce your energy bills. Home insulation also contributes to reducing carbon emissions which contributes to a more sustainable environment.

Cavity Wall Insulation

If your house was built after 1920’s and up to 1990’s it is likely to have cavity walls. A cavity wall is built with two walls with a space between them. To install cavity wall insulation, a series of drill holes are made in the outside walls of your home, and injected with a bonded bead material, and then the drill holes are filled. It is estimated around 1/3 of home heat is lost through uninsulated cavity walls, and insulating these walls could save between £140 and £410 a year (depending on your house type and size). All cavity wall insulation installs come with a 25-year insurance backed guarantee and are registered with Trustmark.

Internal Wall Insulation

If your house was built before the 1920’s it is likely to have solid walls. This means the walls do not have a cap, and therefore cannot be filled with cavity wall insulation. The good news is you can insulate solid walls using either internal wall or external wall insulation. ECO Simplified does not currently offer external wall insulation, however, you can visit www.trustmark.org.uk/homeowner to find a registered installer of external wall insulation.

Internal wall insulation slightly reduces the floor area of any rooms to which it is applied due to the thickness of the insulation being around 100mm. To insulate the internal walls, skirting boards, door frames, plug sockets and other external fittings need to be removes and reattached so this can be a little disruptive. The insulation is completed to a skimmed plaster finish so you will need to redecorate afterwards. If there is any damp in your property, this will need to be treated and fixed before installing internal wall insulation. All internal wall insulation installs come with a 25-year insurance backed guarantee and are registered with Trustmark.

Loft Insulation

It is estimated that uninsulated roofs are responsible for around 25% of heat loss form your home. If you can easily access your loft, your home and loft area do not have damp or condensation, and the area is easy to clear of personal belongings (including any boarded areas) it is relatively simple to insulate a loft. It is recommended that for the best energy efficiency, a minimum of 300mm loft insulation is in the roof space, this is about the length of a piece of A4 paper. When we insulate your loft, we will also make sure any pipes and water tanks are insulated, and that the loft hatch is insulated and draught proofed to prevent cold draughts coming through the hatch into your home. All loft insulation installs come with a 2-year insurance backed guarantee, and are registered with Trustmark.

Room in Roof Insulation

If your loft space, or a part of your loft space has been converted into a useable room it may benefit from being insulated. The process of insulating a room in roof is similar to installing internal wall insulation so radiators, skirting boards, sockets and other external fittings need to be removed. The insulation system is applied to the external walls, which are finished to a skimmed plaster and fixtures and fittings are refitted.  If your room in roof has any residual loft areas, these will also be insulated. You will need to decorate the room in roof once the insulation has been completed. All room in roof insulation installs come with a 25-year insurance backed guarantee and are registered with Trustmark.
